Some encounters during a journey may last only a short while, yet the connection they create can remain long after the journey ends. The story of Sergio Martinez Perosanz, a visitor from Spain, and Mr. Ngần Văn Hóa, a resident of Pù Bin, is one such encounter.
What began as a visit to a small mountain village became an act of genuine kindness. After meeting Mr. Hóa and learning about the challenges he faces in his daily life, Sergio returned to Pù Bin with a wheelchair – a practical gift carrying the care and compassion of a friend from far away.
An Encounter During a Journey to Pù Bin
During his visit to Pù Bin and stay at Nhà Của Bin, Sergio had the opportunity to meet Mr. Ngần Văn Hóa and learn more about his circumstances.
Mr. Hóa has lived with a disability and a congenital condition affecting his legs since childhood. His limited mobility has made many aspects of everyday life more challenging, while his family is also among those facing difficult circumstances in the local community.
Although their meeting was brief, Mr. Hóa’s story left a lasting impression on Sergio.
After returning to Hanoi, Sergio contacted Nhà Của Bin and expressed his wish to purchase a wheelchair for Mr. Hóa. Nhà Của Bin helped connect him with a suitable local supplier, and Sergio later returned to Pù Bin to personally present the wheelchair to Mr. Hóa and his family.
A Practical Gift, Given with Genuine Care
In the family’s traditional stilt house in Pù Bin, the wheelchair was presented to Mr. Hóa in the presence of his family and those accompanying the visit.
For Mr. Hóa, the wheelchair provides practical support that can make mobility and everyday activities more manageable. Yet what made the gift particularly meaningful was the genuine care behind it.
Sergio and Mr. Hóa come from different countries, speak different languages, and had never known each other before this journey. Still, a brief encounter in Pù Bin grew into an act of kindness that crossed both cultural and geographical boundaries.
The smiles and emotion shared in the small stilt house that day made the moment one that everyone present would remember.
